Paul and Timothy Discipleship Lessons

I have been either a Timothy or a Paul for over Thirty years and I have experienced that which he speaks about. God has allowed me to disciple in some manner over 60 people over those years. To Him goes all the glory, it has caused me to grow tremendously in my spiritual walk with God as a servant and disciple of Christ.

This course is best taught in a classroom environment, but Covid makes that impractical at this time. I considered doing it through zoom meetings but, I am not very good at that right now

This course is not for everyone. To achieve its goal, you will have to make a commitment to do so. When you want to stop or quit realize that is the influence of Satan to knock you off track. Pray about it and ask God to give you the desire to go through the course.

This course is not designed to make you an exact clone of anyone, but to help you find the method most comfortable for you to grow your relationship with God. There are of course, some basics that you should practice. A few are: being faithful, consistent, having a desire to learn from God's Holy Word. The Class will cover more as we go along.

I will be available anytime to answer questions or give guidance, Just email me: pastorfdiggs@nehcc.org.

If you commit yourself to learning, God will definitely meet with you. Prepare yourself so God can use you.

Sincerely,

Fred Diggs

Pastor of Northeast Houston Community Church,

Instructions

SUGGESTIONS AND INSTRODUCTION

To get best results from the course I suggest you follow these steps;

Follow the weekly schedule and not try to get too far ahead. The idea is to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you through and enlighten you not to rush through it.

1. Make a commitment to God and yourself that you will be faithful to complete the course. Please be careful with this. If you are not seriously led to do this then do not tell God you will.

Ecclesiastes 5:4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed— 5 Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.

Luke 14:28 (NKJV) 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—

2. This is serious work and should be treated as such. No one is making you do it.

3. Set aside just 1 hour per week at the same time. If you try to do too much you will begin to lose interest and your commitment as well as feeling pressured

4.  It would be super good if you could go through it with two more. The advantages of that are tremendous.

  1. a) You will more likely stay on schedule supporting on another and with accountability.
  2. .b) b) Consider going through the class with your spouse. It will strengthen your marriage.
  3. b) You will be able to share with someone the insights the Holy Spirit gives you. Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV) 17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
  4. c) Both of you will be greatly blessed and ready to be used by God.

5. Understand that you will be tempted and tested. The devil will tempt you to quit. “The devil will tempt you to do wrong and God tests you to do right.”

ONLY when you have completed the course then seek another Christian that you can guide them through the course. Matt 28:19-20.

This will change  your life.

I will be available for help and to answer questions. Send me a email if you plan to follow the course so I can encourage you as best I can.

 Week 2

Lesson #1

I started keeping a Spiritual notebook back in the 1980’s. Over the years I tried the  Notebook and the Journal method then recording into MS Word becausemy hand writing was so bad. I later moved to the Logos Software and they have tools for everything I needed to do. I have been using that method for over 20 years now

Week 3 Lesson #2

This lesson covers some very important habits to incorporate in having an effective quiet times with God

Week 4

Lesson #3

It has been said that the greatest sin of the church is prayerlessness. If this is true, it is probably because the average Christian has little knowledge in the area of prayer. This begins to cover what prayer is,

 Week 5

Lesson #4

This lessons covers suggestions for an effective prayer life along with using a prayer and praise list.

Week 6

Lesson 5#

Scripture memory is an important aid to spiritual growth because it helps you begin to think as God thinks. Your concepts, values, and priorities become like His. You are cleansed because you begin to pay attention to your life in a new way.

 Week 7

Lesson #6

This lesson covers the importance of studying the Bible not just reading it.

week 8

Extra Reading

This lessons covers some historical information about the Bible, it's development and origins of the different versions.

 Week 8

Lesson #7

This lessons covers some Proven methods of studying the Bible.

 Week 9 Lesson #8

This lessons covers the importance of mediating on God's word for it to sink in and become part of us. This in how we hide the word of God in our hearts to call upon when needed.

 Week 10

Lesson #9

This lessons covers how to give an effective testimony. Many Christians have have many opportunities to give a testimony for the Lord but failed to do so because they did not recognize the opportunity or was not confident enough to do so or worse they give a sermon instead of a testimony. This less covers the different types of testimonies.

Week 11

Lesson #10

This covers the faithfulness of Saint Polycarp, an early martyrdom of the church. The stronger our relationship is with God the stronger we can stand against  men and the devil.

 Week 12

Lesson #11

Jesus had three areas of ministry. He devoted himself to a public, private and personal ministry. The most important ministry he had, after providing a way to salvation, was to make disciples to carry on the ministries known as the Great Commission.

Week 13

Lesson #12

Many Christians  have found themselves  with a nonbeliever that is ready to accept Christ as their Savior but they do not know haw to present the plan of salvation. Too often  they refer the person to their pastor or may give a confusing example. God uses C hristians  to bring in new Christians. We must be ready to step up to the plate when  called to do so

Week 14

Lesson #13

The very first command God gave at creation is found in Gen 1:28.

Genesis 1:28 (NKJV) 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” The very first command Jesus gave to His disciples was basically the same. Multiplication will beat addition every time.

As Christians  each oneof us should bring one.

Week 15

Lesson #14

Jesus spent more time teaching than He did preaching. Preaching and teaching is not reserved only for the preacher. We all may not be able to teach like a professor but we all can teach what we know. That may just be enough to get the ball rolling some one to salvation or to be a more mature Christian.

Week 16

Lesson #15

It has been said that the greatest testimony we can give for Christ is the life we live. There have been enough people who have died for Christ, now He is looking for those who are willing to live for Him.

Week 17

Lesson #16

The commission that Christ gave to His disciples was for them to make disciples. There is too much focus on making Christians that very few disciples are made. The Bible tells us that Christians were first called disciples. Let's make disciples that Christians will follow.

Acts 11:26 (NKJV)  26 ...And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

Week 17

Lesson #17A

The Bible plainly tells us that every Christian is given a spiritual gift, with some ability to serve the church. The body of the church needs a variety of gifts as mentioned in scripture.

What is my spiritual gift is the question most asked when this subject is taught?

Week 18

Lesson #17B

What is the difference between the ‘gift of the holy spirit, "gifts coming from the Holy Spirit and the Spiritual office coming from Jesus?

Week 19

Lesson #17C

This lesson highlights some typical " Spiritual  Gifts" and comments on them.

Week 20

Lesson #18

We will cover three affirmations on this: (1) Assurance is based on the promises in God’s Word; (2) Assurance must not be based on our works; and (3) Assurance is an inseparable part of saving faith. In short, I believe that salvation is assured but that it can also be lost.

Week 21

Lesson #19

The next event on God's calendar  is the rapture. This is the beginning of the "End Times."
